Name: Summer T. Brooks Age: 24 Location: Greenville, South Carolina Contest Weight: 110 lbs. Off-Season Weight: 130 lbs. Height: 5ft. 1 in. Years Bodybuilding: going on 3 years Favorite Bodypart: Abs (only because I never do 'em) Favorite Exercise: Shoulder Presses Favorite Supplement: Anything ISS Placings: 2002 SC State LW, 2nd, 2003 Jr. USA LW 1st & Overall How I got started: The evolution of my bodybuilding career is quite interesting: I started out in ballet and quit after about 15 years or so when I found cheerleading and gymnastics. That was cut short when I began college at an all-female institution where I picked up volleyball. Then I started dating this guy that was into lifting, although he had never competed. So, naturally, I began to lift too. I never had any aspirations of competing until I saw this girl at Greenville's Gold's Gym in 2001. She was unbelievable! You may have heard of her, her name is Lori Emory. She was getting ready for the Jr. USA, and I just couldn't imagine what it took to look like that. So, later that year, I called her up, hired her as my trainer and competed in my first show, '02 SC State! My work-out plan: One bodypart per day works best for me. I do cardio every morning, and take Sundays completely off. Why I love bodybuilding: I'm a perfectionist, so there is no medium for me: it's either all or nothing. I believe that if something is worth doing, it's worth doing to the absolute best of your ability, to just throw 100% of yourself into it. And it shows in the form of confidence on stage. Bodybuilding gives me a channel to focus on, it gives me structure, and it is the best AND worst thing I've ever involved myself in. Future bodybuilding plans: 2003 Nationals Tip to other bodybuilders: Gosh, there's SO many!!! I'm still a rookie, so the best advice I can give is what others have given me to this point. One of my favorites is a quote that pushed me through my most recent contest preparation: "You must show no mercy, nor have any belief in how others judge you, for your greatness will silence them all." But above all, you've GOT to stay positive, no matter what happens. Favorite bodybuilders: Valentina Chepiga, and (of course) Eddie Linda!
